Postman, explained

Written by EduVerse

What it is

Postman is a desktop and web app for sending HTTP requests to an API and inspecting the responses. You fill in the URL, method, headers and body in a form instead of writing code, and save requests in collections you can share with your team.

Why teams use it

When you build or call an API, you want to try endpoints quickly without a frontend. Postman adds environments (local, test, production) with variables, scripts that check responses, and Newman to run collections from the command line in CI. Lighter alternatives are curl, Bruno or the .http files many editors support.

An example from work

You import the team’s collection, choose the staging environment and send POST {{baseUrl}}/orders. The response is 401 Unauthorized until you request a fresh token, store it in the environment and let the Authorization tab send it as a Bearer token.
