Python, explained

Written by EduVerse

What it is

Python is a general-purpose language known for code that reads almost like plain English, with indentation instead of curly braces to mark blocks. It’s interpreted and dynamically typed, so you can run a script straight away without a compile step. Its package index, PyPI, has a library for nearly everything.

Why teams use it

Python gets you from idea to working code quickly, which is why scientists, data analysts and people automating tasks reach for it. Libraries like pandas, NumPy and PyTorch made it the default for data and AI work. For heavy server workloads it’s slower than Java or Go, but often fast enough.

An example from work

You’re asked to clean up a CSV export from the sales system. You create a virtual environment with python -m venv .venv, run pip install pandas, and twenty lines of Python later you have a tidy file. A classic mistake is forgetting to activate it and then seeing ModuleNotFoundError when you run the script.
