Azure, explained
Written by EduVerseWhat it is
Azure is Microsoft’s cloud platform. Like AWS and Google Cloud, it rents out virtual machines, storage, databases and hosting, with services such as Azure App Service for web apps and Azure SQL Database. It ties in closely with other Microsoft products, including .NET, Visual Studio and Microsoft Entra ID, the identity service previously called Azure Active Directory.
Why teams use it
Many companies already run on Microsoft: Windows, Office and company logins. Azure lets them use the same accounts and contracts for their cloud, which is a common reason larger organizations and governments pick it. It also supports hybrid setups, where part of the system stays in the company’s own data center and part runs in the cloud.
An example from work
You join a team that builds a .NET API, and deploying means an Azure DevOps pipeline that publishes to an Azure App Service. When the app won’t start after a deploy, you open that App Service in the Azure portal and check the Log stream to read the startup error.
