React Native, explained
Written by EduVerseWhat it is
React Native is a framework from Meta for building iOS and Android apps with React. You write components in JavaScript or TypeScript, but instead of HTML elements you use building blocks like View, Text and Pressable, which become real native interface elements on the phone rather than a web page.
Why teams use it
Building one app twice, in Swift for iOS and Kotlin for Android, is expensive. React Native lets one team share most of the code between both platforms and reuse React knowledge from the web. Flutter solves the same problem with Dart, while fully native code still gives the most direct access to new platform features.
An example from work
Your company’s mobile app is built with React Native and Expo. You run npx expo start, scan the QR code with Expo Go on your phone, and see your change appear within seconds. Then a button looks fine on iOS but is cut off on Android, and you learn to always test on both.
