C++, explained
Written by EduVerseWhat it is
C++ is a compiled language that started as an extension of C and grew into something much larger. It adds classes, templates and a big standard library on top of C, while still letting you work directly with memory when you need to.
Why teams use it
Teams pick C++ when they need the speed of C but also want abstractions to organize a very large codebase, as in game engines, browsers and trading systems. The language is famously complex, though, and some teams starting new projects with similar performance needs now look at Rust instead.
An example from work
You open an Unreal Engine project and find the gameplay logic in .cpp and .h files. Passing the wrong type to one function can fill the build output with long template errors, and a full rebuild takes long enough to fetch coffee, which is normal in a large C++ codebase.
