Swift, explained
Written by EduVerseWhat it is
Swift is the language Apple created for apps on its own devices: iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch and Apple TV. It’s compiled and statically typed, with optionals that make missing values explicit, and it has largely taken over from Objective-C for new Apple code.
Why teams use it
If you want a native app that uses the latest Apple features and feels at home on the device, Swift with SwiftUI or UIKit is the most direct route. Cross-platform tools like React Native or Flutter let one team serve iOS and Android, but new Apple features are usually available to Swift first.
An example from work
Your company’s iOS app lives in an Xcode project, and your first ticket is a layout bug on one screen. You open a SwiftUI view, change a VStack’s spacing and watch the preview canvas update next to the code, then run the app in the iPhone simulator to check it.
