Flux, explained

What it is

Flux is an open-source GitOps tool for Kubernetes. Controllers inside the cluster watch a Git repository and apply the YAML, Kustomize or Helm configuration they find there, so the cluster keeps matching what’s committed in Git.

Why teams use it

With Flux, nobody runs kubectl apply by hand: a deploy is a merge request, so every change is reviewed, recorded and easy to roll back with git revert. If someone changes something directly in the cluster, Flux puts it back. Argo CD solves the same problem and has a richer web UI.

An example from work

You merge a change to the replica count, but nothing happens in the cluster. Running flux get kustomizations shows READY as False, with a validation error in your YAML. You fix the typo in a new commit and run flux reconcile kustomization with --with-source to sync right away.
