Micronaut, explained

What it is

Micronaut is a JVM framework for building microservices and serverless functions in Java, Kotlin or Groovy. It looks familiar to Spring developers, with annotations like @Controller and @Inject, but it prepares dependency injection and other wiring while compiling, instead of scanning your code with reflection at startup.

Why teams use it

Classic Spring apps scan and wire everything when they start, which costs time and memory. Micronaut moves that work to compile time, so services start quickly and use less memory, which matters when you run many small containers or pay per function call.

An example from work

Your team’s notification service turns out to be a Micronaut app. The controller, with @Controller and @Get annotations, looks almost like Spring code, so you can find your way around. When you run ./gradlew run, the service is up and answering requests within moments.
