Lightning-fast JVM framework optimised for containers and cloud-native workloads.
Quarkus, explained
Written by EduVerseWhat it is
Quarkus is a Java framework from Red Hat built for running in containers and Kubernetes. It does much of its setup during the build instead of at startup, and it can compile an app into a native executable with GraalVM, so a service starts in a fraction of the time a traditional Java app needs.
Why teams use it
In the cloud you pay for memory and wait for startup, and Java has a reputation for being heavy on both. Quarkus tackles that while using familiar standards like Jakarta REST and CDI. Teams that already know Spring Boot sometimes choose Quarkus for new services where fast startup and small containers count.
An example from work
You clone a Quarkus service and run ./mvnw quarkus:dev. You edit a REST resource, refresh the browser, and the change is already live without a restart; pressing r in the terminal runs the tests. In the pipeline, a separate build step produces a native executable for a small container image.
