PyCharm, explained
Written by EduVerseWhat it is
PyCharm is an IDE from JetBrains built specifically for Python. It knows which Python interpreter and virtual environment your project uses, so it can autocomplete library code, flag errors as you type and run your tests. A debugger, a terminal and Git tools sit in the same window.
Why teams use it
Python is easy to start in a plain editor, but in a bigger project you want to jump to definitions, refactor safely and step through code with a debugger. PyCharm has all of that built in. VS Code with the Python extension is the lighter alternative; PyCharm gives you more out of the box but uses more memory.
An example from work
You open a cloned project and every import is underlined in red, with a banner saying no Python interpreter is configured. You open the interpreter settings, point PyCharm at the project’s .venv folder and wait for indexing to finish. The red lines disappear and autocomplete starts working.
